Door & Hinge Repairs

Doors that stick, drop, catch or will not latch — realigned, rehung or replaced.

A property professional carefully adjusting a solid timber door hinge

A door that sticks is rarely a door problem. Usually the hinges have worn or pulled, the frame has moved, or the floor covering has changed height. Planing the door is the quick answer and often the wrong one — once material is removed it cannot go back, and the gap reappears when the real cause is addressed.

We diagnose the cause first, then correct it: repacking or replacing hinges, repairing worn screw holes, easing the frame, or rehanging the door properly.

What’s included

  • Sticking, dropped and binding doors realigned
  • Hinge replacement and repair of worn screw holes
  • New internal doors hung, trimmed and finished
  • Latch, lock and handle replacement and adjustment
  • Door closers, seals and draught-proofing
  • Frame, architrave and stop-bead repairs

Typical jobs

Work of this kind we take on

  • Door catching on the frame after new flooring
  • Hinges pulled out of a hollow door or soft frame
  • Latch not engaging so the door swings open
  • Set of internal doors replaced throughout a flat
  • Bathroom door lock replaced and adjusted

What to expect

How we approach it

Diagnosis before adjustment
We find out whether the door, the hinges, the frame or the floor has moved, and correct that. Trimming the door is a last resort, not a first one.
Worn fixings made good
Stripped or enlarged screw holes are plugged and re-drilled so the new screws bite into solid timber rather than pulling out again.
Checked through the full swing
The door is tested open, closed and latched, and against the floor covering, before we finish.
