Repairs & Maintenance

Tiling

Wall and floor tiling set out from the centre line, with the waterproofing that wet areas require.

A tiler checking large-format bathroom tiles for level and alignment

Tiling fails at the substrate far more often than at the tile. A wall that flexes, a floor that is not level, or a shower area that was never tanked will show up as cracked grout and loose tiles within a year or two. We prepare and, where needed, tank the surface before any tile is set.

Set-out matters just as much. Tiles are laid from a centre line so cuts fall evenly at both ends, and full tiles land where the eye goes first.

What to expect

How we approach it

Wet areas tanked
Shower and bath surrounds are waterproofed before tiling. Grout is not a waterproof layer, and treating it as one is why so many showers leak into the room below.
Set out from the centre
We plan cuts so they fall evenly and out of the main sightline, and so awkward slivers do not end up in a corner or against a door.
Movement joints where they belong
Silicone rather than grout at internal corners and where tiling meets a bath, sanitaryware or a different material — grout in those positions will crack.
